Greetings,
I tried to monitor any railroad traffic here in Visalia, seems like it's very little traffic down this way. 161.550 seems like the channel that is slightly busy with other services using that frequency. any other frequencies to plug in? anything up in the 400's?

The railroad does not use voice on UHF (450Mhz). As far as Visalia goes, the closest you'd get is Ch 096-096 (the one you've mentioned) for the UP Fresno Sub and Ch 017-017 (160.365Mhz) for the San Joaquin Valley RR, now Gennessee & Wyoming (G&W) between Exeter and Westhaven via Goshen.

Regards,
