thank you Mr. Velvet, i hope that the Emerg. at 31 stays there because they sure do need it.

ow and i heard when CFD gets the money from the city to by there new trucks. They will be going

straight for new aerials and tankers. But there going to take up to 18 to 24 months to get them in the

city because there is a long waiting list.

This is not unusual no matter what city you talk about or how urgently they need trucks. My department bought a truck in April that will not be delivered to us until summer 2009. They're custom designed and built.

The ONLY time I have ever heard of anyone getting a truck "fast" i.e. within a few weeks or months is when Seagrave Fire Apparatus put extra shifts on at their manufacturing plant to help replenish FDNY after 9/11. (Seagrave is or was the only manufacturer FDNY uses.)

No, I am a dispatcher with Public Safety Communications, which is pretty much separate from Fire, Police, & EMS in Calgary, officially.

I am also a firefighter/rescuer with Redwood Meadows Emergency Services (station 50).

The news clip you posted stated "5 firehalls" were in the works in the near future. I would peg that as 33, 35, 36, and replacements for 32 and 3. Although 6 is also well past due for a real hall to replace their Quonset hut.

well Redwood Medows is a good department, #32 i heard was in the process of being built i, but the

police service couldn't get 2 million for the project ( beacuse it's a muilty-service station) so i heard that

it was stalled

That's not really got anything to do with the Calgary fire department at all. Rockyview Fire Service has been undergoing some significant changes over the past few years, as detailed in the article. Springbank was initially established due to political promises and a special tax levied upon the Springbank area residents. Balzac came to be with the establishment of the new mega-mall. Chestermere has been on-and-off part of the RVFS for years now, and it's not a surprise that they're going to go with a combination paid/volunteer department (as are Springbank, Balzac, and Cochrane and Airdrie, the latter two of which are not part of RVFS). And Elbow Springs has been approved, so I hear - and it will be built along the Highway 8 area near the Glencoe golf club.

What I've heard is that Balzac will eventually have an aerial, tanker, and bush buggy to complement the pumper that exists now (along with a temporary, reserve tanker that's there now). If the Calgary Airport Authority goes ahead with its expansion plans for Springbank, it will soon require full-time, dedicated ARFF staff, which will most likely involve Springbank staff.

well what i ment was that calgary wouldn't have to respond with tons of crews anymore, so a fire in

Balzac etc... wouldn't have to have a massive response from calgary because they already have some

crews in Balzac

and is that aerial, bush buggy, and tanker that are going to Balzac all going to be new?, thanks

2 Parkade is just a pickup truck loaded with firefighting gear which can support a pumper going into a parking garage. Obviously the pumper isn't going to fit. The Parkade vehicle has no light bars or antenna on the roof, so its clearance is ultra-low (think a regular, non-4x4 pickup truck).

The trucks going into Balzac, as well as all the other apparatus being purchased for Rockyview, are all to be new machines.

My personal gut feeling is you shouldn't expect 27 to get "fixed" any time soon. I'd be surprised if 27 Pump didn't eventually become 13 Pump in a permanent move.

Pic 1: Rockyview Comms pulling the communications trailer. Looks like he's picked up a new one since the 2005 floods when he had it set up as a command post in Bragg Creek.

Pic 2: Is actually Irricana (56) Pump if I recall correctly. 72's pump is late in the production process at Fort Garry Trucks in Winnipeg.

Pic 3: Is the new Rescue truck. Rumors fly about all over the place as to where this is going to go. I've heard Langdon (60), Springbank (71), and Balzac (72). Most likely Balzac at this point.
