There are only a few fire truck manufacturers/sales agencies in North America - under 20 that Calgary would consider, I'd say. Phoenix Emergency Equipment in Red Deer does a lot of service and repair work - I don't know if they do manufacturing or sales anymore. EMERGENCY-ONE used to have a branch in Red Deer called Superior (which in turn used to be an independent company before E-One bought them out) but I think they went under and E-One only sells out of their Ocala, FL headquarters now. Calgary's love interest as of late has been Spartan Rosenbauer for pumps and emergencies (and the like) and Smeal for aerials.
There's also KME (Kovatch Mobile Equipment, or Keep Mechanics Employed), and Pierce - a lot of the older aerial apparatus and some of the pumpers are Pierce models. RMES has just ordered a Pierce Contender pumper on a Kenworth (!!!) chassis which will be delivered in summer 2009.
Saulsbury may or may not still exist, and of course Seagrave, which subsides pretty decently on the (exclusive) FDNY contract alone, not to mention the other trucks they build.
American LaFrance is one of the oldest and keeps going in and out of receivership. Last I heard they had suspended operations again.
Other aerial manufacturers include Bronto (part of E-One, which also has its own aerial division), Simon-LTI (though they may have been bought out), Metz (more of a European company but gaining ground in North America), and I can't think of any more off the top of my head.
I was at 16 for a meeting today and took some pics in the boneyard. I'll try to post them later tonight.
