This afternoon ABC news at 4 pm says OSHA sent letter to Chicago mayor about sending rookies into fires alone and using “poor” radios where the young firefighter lost his life cause no one could hear his emergency call,….

Was able to dig around their web site to find the story. 19 pages and this is what they got out of it...LOL!


Took a look back at the thread to see which system CFD was on at the time. This was the era when they were constantly switching between UHF and 800. Looking at the time frame, it appears they were on UHF which should have allowed the still chief the opportunity to "scan" Main and Fireground which has been discussed here for the reason they "should" return to UHF. Prior to this, Battalion Chiefs wee issued a second portable to strictly monitor the fireground channel if both radios were on. Unfortunately, many errors were committed and "radio failures" was the least of their problems.
