I have an old Uniden bearcat conventional scanner. I use it to pick up the fire dispatch calls on 154.250 but after a tone out and at random times there is a morse code like sound that emitts and I am just curious as to why? Just curious.

It's an automated feature that transmits the station call sign in morse code at a regular interval. Saves the dispatcher from having to remember to do it.

METCAD saturday evening What happened

On saturday evening Metcad lost some of its services like, Unit radio ID's, LEADS programs and DMV records. Also they were doing lots of tone testing, heavy with testing on cornbelt tones, but pagers more specific. I can only assume that the lightning had something to do with it since it all happened shortly after all the thunder rolled thru C-U area. I was just wondering if any one else heard anything else or different.
