Sounds like rebanding is happening this morning. Heard a couple hams talking about it this morning. Any idea what we need to do on our scanners make the change? I keep hearing -15mhz, but is that all I need to do with the control channels?

Yep rebanding is DONE. Just reprogram the scanners with 853.8250 as the control channel and it should work on the unidens. Just use the same system and drop the frequencies by 15mhz and it should go.

I finally re-programmed my Pro-2096 with the new frequencies. Maybe I just have a great location for MDICE (I am between St Joseph and Sidney), but I get really good results with my 2096 and MDICE. I do get an occasional burst of digi-hash instead of a voice transmission, and the audio is a little bit gurgly from time to time, but it is not bad at all. Starcom 21 is quite a bit better in terms of audio.

I have the latest DSP flash-update installed, maybe those with reception problems with MDICE are running an earlier DSP? Or maybe it is location dependant.

I already asked about this in the antenna forum but I thought I’d ask here too. I am running pro96com on a pro96 and I have been having problems with the decode rate dropping at random. I think this has to do with it being simulcast since I get 100% on Starcom. I had heard that using a directional antenna could help with this but I was wondering if anyone else might have some insight into this. Whatever solution I go with needs to be indoor and not too big, I know that limits performance but I don’t really have a choice.

c-ubuff: I have experienced the same issue you're experiencing but have no solution. This is not a problem on Starcom21 standalone sites (but it is with the Peoria simulcast). Many times while monitoring MDICE on Pro96com it will show what talkgroups are active but it fails to show the radio id transmitting.

Have you tried a directional antenna? I am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to try so I was wondering what other peoples experience has been. Thanks

I haven't tried a directional antenna. For me, it just wasn't worth the time or expense to improve my decoding of MDICE with Pro96com. I've messed with the attenuation settings but that made the signal drop so much that Pro96com was missing nearly all the transmissions.

I did some more research with the Pro96. Took it along Springfield Ave from Downtown Urbana to Downtown Champaign with very good results (no garbled transmissions). In Downtown Champaign again it worked well (which surprised me because I expected its sensitive receiver to get overloaded). Listened again later at I74 and Lincoln Ave and it sounded horrible. Obviously reception on the Pro96 is very much dependent upon your location. I prefer using the 396T for MDICE since the decoding is based strictly on signal strength. The 396T works in places where side-by-side the Pro96 is garbled or passes digital noise.

Champaign, IL » METCAD 9-1-1 Director Rick Kallmayer Announces Retirement

From a City of Champaign press release:

"The system provides communications interoperability between all first responder agencies in Champaign County, and will soon be interoperable with the state-wide Star Com 21 communications network which serves the Illinois State Police and many other agencies."

Does that mean that MDICE will be connected to Starcom? Will MDICE talkgroups be heard on area Starcom towers and vice versa?

new here, I have a Uniden BCD396T hand held scanner, when METCAD switched to 800 mhz I bought this thing, I had to mail to some place and asked them to program it because I couldnt figure it out , earlier this year I began to hear less and less, CPD seemed to shift alot of traffic to some encrypted channel, then I began to hear nothing but fire/EMS, I always enjoyed the law enforcement channels, is there someone or someplace around here where I can go to get my scanner reprogrammed, I'm so lost, it used to be so easy just punch 453.400 into my scanner and all was well this trunk tracking thing is just confusing to me
thanks

I am new to Champaign County and unfamiliar with the trunking system. I understand the concept but I can't seem to get my scanner to work. I programmed the control frequency of 853.82500 for Champaign county into my RadioShack Pro-163 scanner, but all I get is static. Any advice?

Return the PRO163 and replace it with a digital capable scanner, such as a PRO106, PSR500 or BCD396XT.

The PRO163 can not monitor the Champaign system.
