In the quiet little beach town of surfside beach, the fire div is going to switch from operations on current dispatch freq. of 154.9950 to the old vhf police freq @ 155.5350.

Nothing is in stone yet, but they are fighting 800 and wanted all of us fd personnel to bring radios and pagers in for reporogramming.

Also there has been talk from the radio shop that pd will switch from mb communications system to the hc system once a new tower is up in southern end of the county.

It's about time they get off a SMR :)

Why are they changing from one VHf to another? Interference? I never worked in that area of the county, so I never monitored Surfside.

Thanks

First off the town was on a type II system through mb com, as far as them changing currently they are paying a fee for every radio, every talkgroup, every month!!! They currently have 3 talkgroups 10-20 radios!

The vhf change is coming down because fire has been asking questions about going 800 and the local radio guy says wait!!! You don't have to go 800 just use the old police repeater. Also they just recently discovered the lic. was expired....I told them that 2 yrs ago.

Well there you go.

Just curious ... you were licensed for, and (according to my notes) using a repeater on 154.995 MHz.

You will be going to a non-repeated channel ... 155.535 MHz. Any plans to apply to use a repeater with 155.535 ?

I get the impression that 155.100 was being used as the input to the 154.995 repeater (kind of close spacing, huh ?). It appears that Surfside would have no problem licensing and coordinating those frequencies, if they wished to (there's only 1 other agency licensed on 154.995 in SC). Any reason they didn't opt to relicense, rather than having to reprogram the radios and pagers, and pass the bad news to other agencies providing mutual aid to Surfside ?

154.9950 was non-repeater, 155.5350 is repeater with 154.8000 being the input. 155.1000 was used for fg operations along with 154.3100.

The only other service that I'm aware was on 154.9950 in sc was seneca fire dept. in the upstate of sc. On occassion you could hear carter county, nc (near moorehead city). Even on an open pager loud and clear!

But like I said it had nothing to do with interference. At one time we were dispatching on 154.3100, but due to interference from midway fire just to the south of us and fairbluff fire just over the state line we switched to 154.9950.

My log was correct, but my eyes were wrong ...

It's Franklin County, Ga Sheriffs on 154.995 / 167.9 with the repeater. I do have Surfside as simplex. First log entry was 09131998, and the last reception at home as July, 2004.

I say this carefully, since my eyes are currently in wake-up mode still (it's 5:30 a.m.) ... but it doesn't appear, according to the FCC database and some other resources I use, that Surfside is or was ever licensed for a repeater on 155.535 MHz.

Are they looking to hire a license administrator ???

Well as of right now, they haven't changed anything yet. However they are now saying they want to investigate it alittle more.

So as I hear more I'll be sure to post it for everyone.
