I just copied an announcement on SLC FD's main dispatch channel that they would be switching to a backup Monday morning, 06/18/2007 at 2:30 am. The announcement was verifying a fax sent to all stations.

SLC FD channels 1, 2, and 3 will be moved to "Zone 12, channels 1, 2, and 3" which are backup channels.

Does ANYONE have information as to how that relates to the frequencies that we have for the current scans? I am not sure what frequencies are involved in "Zone 12" in the trunking system.

There was no indication how long this change would remain in place nor why the change was being made. I only can assume that in is connection with the rebanding requirements.

I found the following partial info.
Zone 12 seems to indicate the SLC airport Tunked system.

I heard these talkgroups active today:
48560 - Being used as SLC fire1 backup
48496 - PD Dispatch
48592 - ? Haven't heard enough to identify

As epcotster has indicated, I also have copied SLC FD on TG 48560 and SLC PD East (Liberty) on TG 48496. From what little traffic I have heard the dispatchers are not happy with the present communications. I expect that this is just a temporary move to get them off the main channels so the radio engineers can do some preparatory work for making the final change in rebanding.

The traffic I am hearing is coming through the Airport Authority radio system (sysid 3521). I can copy the SLC FD dispatcher only on 453.2000 which is the VHS link.

Way back some time ago the following TGIDs were listed in the RR Database:

48496 - SLC PD Airbak 1
48528 - SLC PD Airbak 2
48560 - SLC FD Airbak 1
48592 - SLC FD Airbak 2

I just happened to have them still programmed into my units as airport TGs. So far I have not been able to verify SLC PD West (Pioneer) so I don't know if the other TG listed as Airbak 2 is a good bet or not. I have been locked on that TG for half an hour and have not had any traffic on it. I am sure that SLC PD West is being serviced from the airport. It is just a matter of picking out the TGID.

If anyone picks them up please post it here as soon as possible. Also watch for SLC FD on another TG which would be their temporary channel 2.

SLC FD just announced a required change in policy while this radio mess is straightened out. The dispatcher cannot copy any radio traffic from handhelds inside buildings and has demanded that a person remain OUTSIDE any building to act as a relay for traffic originating inside any building.

You can bet that the pressure will be placed on the radio engineers now to get their work finished so decent communications can be restored.

Well I have now copied enough traffic on "SLC PD Airbak 2" to verify that it is the temporary TGID for SLC PD West (Pioneer). So the temporary channels break down as follows:

48496 - SLC PD Airbak 1 - SLC PD East (Liberty)
48528 - SLC PD Airbak 2 - SLC PD West (Pioneer)
48560 - SLC FD Airbak 1 - SLC FD Channel 1
48592 - SLC FD Airbak 2 - Still not verified as SLC FD Channel 2

I have heard Fire 2 on TG 48592.

I hear references to service and car 2 car channels, but can't find what
they are using for them, but they don't seem to be on the same system.

It is 3:15 pm and I am now receiving SLC PD on their regular trunked TGIDs on the SLC Public Safety site (AC33), but I am still getting the Fire Department on the temporary channels.

~~~~~ooOoo~~~~~
At 1551 hours, SLC FD announced on to their units that the regular channels were again open and requested all units to change back.
Yippee!
