    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is it possible, or difficult, to change the model of radio?

I have some HT1000 and XTS Model 1 radios that I'd like to upgrade to having a screen and the numeric pad. Is it as simple as changing the housing? The radios already have the keypad electronics, just not the rubber button layer.

Depends on which XTS radios you are referring to...2500, 3000, 5000? Upgrading an XTS 2500 or 5000 to a model II or III is fairly simple. You just need to get the housing that matches the model you want to upgrade to, an LCD screen, and a keypad and keypad rubber. you than also have to upgrade the codeplug of the radio to the desired model and flashcode you want.

I'm not sure what you could really upgrade on an HT1000...not much there, but I have never done anything like that with that model. Only XTS5000's.

You need to program a brand new codeplug of which ever model you are trying to upgrade to.
