Hello,

It is my understanding that the sentinel database is synced with radio reference once weekly.

I was wondering how the logic works when updating the sentinel database when I have changed the channel/a.k.a. talkgroup name to something custom.
Ex. Tac 3D > 3D
Is it overridden, will it create a duplicate, or something else?

Thanks.

Sentinels db is updated weekly. What's in your Sentinel and in your scanner only changes if you update the db and push it to the scanner.

The only thing that gets rewritten is the full database. Anything in favorites lists need to be manually updated.

Thanks for the reply.

Additionally, it seems that Sentinel does not use the alpha tags from the database. Is this a setting that I’m missing?

Alpha tags are for older generation scanners. The "HomePatrol" based scanners (HP-1, HP-2, x36HP, SDS series) use the description field instead. If you are interested in having more control over your scanner programming, including using alpha tags instead of description fields, or being able to update your favorites lists after the main RRDB is updated, give @ProScan a try. Worth every penny.

The database is updated weekly (usually). You have to download it to get it.

You can only edit the Favorites Lists which are not affected by the Full Database (what is updated weekly)

Yes. The database is updated on a weekly basis (Monday). And as stated, the update must then be downloaded into Sentinel. This is NOT automatic... you must do this manually within the Sentinel program. Now you have the latest information and can create or edit your FL’s in Sentinel. All that’s left to do now is take what you programmed in Sentinel and send it to the scanner.

So, getting your scanner updated with the latest data is a two step operation. First, you must download into Sentinel that data from Radio Reference and second, use Sentinel to download (write) to the scanner.

The same process holds true for Butel ARC software and I believe ProScan too (but I am not familiar with ProScan).
