To begin, if I'm posting this question in the wrong forum someone please let me know and I'll gladly repost in the right one.

I'm trying to figure out how to change the beginning/lower frequency of a band, i.e., if on the PL-880 and H-501x the 49m band begins at 5900 kHz, how do I change it to, say, 5800 kHz? FWIW, I've read the manual and researched the internet - doubtless it's something simple - but have been able to come up with a way to do it. Any pearls of wisdom would be most welcome.

I don't think that's possible, I wouldn't know of any portable (or any other radio that even has a concept of SW broadcast bands) that lets you change the (internationally defined by the WRC/ITU and therefore pretty invariable) broadcast band limits. FM is different because there are 3 regions with different FM band ranges in the world and ham band allocations differ too between regions, but not the SWBC bands.

Now I know I don't need to worry about that any more :). Thank you!

There are a few other radios that have the same issue. I just tune to the lowest used frequency I know of and tune upwards, which I'll generally do anyways when tuning the SW broadcast bands.

On radios that have the set bands option, I will use it to toggle from meter band to meter band just to see what's going on.

Boombox, thanks for the reply... that's pretty much what I've been doing. I've been advised that the ITU international broadcasting bands are probably the closest thing to a good reference point so I'm going to go with that.
