Hi,
I am completely new at this so Im sorry if I am making a fool out of myself.
I have a Motorola HT1250, when I open it up with the CPS software, it says that the frequency range is 136.000 - 174.000, is it possible at all for me to extend it to a greater range?

Thank You

that's about the extent of the range of that radio. How far do you want to extend it? Obviously if you have CPS for the radio, you have some radio knowledge and know that anything below 136 MHz is deemed for aircraft and AM, and anything above 174 MHz is pretty much TV stations to begin with.
