Why would I take the time to assign channel and system number tags with my 996XT? I have searched and read the easier to read manual and my brain is not comprehending what this feature is on my scanner. Perhaps someone could explain it to me like I'm five:) Thanks for any help.

Say you had a system tagged as 21 and a channel or talk group in that system tagged as 15.
With the scanner on Hold, enter 21.15, then Menu. The scanner will jump directly to that system and that channel and talk group.

I don't use it much my self. I can't remember what tags I gave to what system/channels.

That's it??? Why was that so hard for my brain? I know what it was honeydo list syndrome. It is a terrible affliction that has brought many a married man to his knees. Thanks for the answer.

I toggle systems on and off frequently with quick keys, so to help me remember the quick key when I name a system, I give it a 2-digit id just before the system name and make the quick-key the same number.

Example: I named my Marine system to "37 Marine". And then I assigned a system quick-key of 37 to it. Now I just toggle it from the keyboard with .37

For systems less than 10, I precede the system name with a zero, but only assign a quick-key without the leading zero. EX:

My HAM/AMATEUR system is actually named "05 Ham". They system quick-key assigned to it, is just 5.

The reason I use the leading zero in the system name, is that it shows up first in the software lists and doesn't get mixed in later on.

It took me a very long time to figure out what the point of it was too! Now the only two frequencies I have number tags assigned to are the ATIS frequencies for the two local airports. They're kept locked out, but when I want to hear what the active runway is I can quickly switch to that channel and hear it, instead of trying to hold and scroll through channels to find it.
