Normally I have my SDS100 in my car wired hot to the battery. I have the scanner set to charge while powered on. It seems like anytime I pull the power from it for example to take in my wife's car it reverts to disable for the charge while on.

Has anyone else seen this?
Upman?

It will disable the charge if you get the USB voltage too low error.

It's happened once to me. There was an "error" message to the effect that the amperage was too low. I don't remember the specific message.

Most recently heat was not an issue. I've noticed this in my car when plugged in but it starts charging again on it's own when it cools down. No menu intervention required.

If I remember correctly, in the early firmware, if you encountered low voltage, a low voltage message would be displayed and the radio would just stop with that message on the screen until you power cycled it. Later firmware versions appeared to change this to a brief (< 5 second) display of that message which then let the radio resume on battery. The low voltage error would also change the user setting for battery charging to OFF.

Additionally, as others have stated, once the temperature of the radio reaches a certain point, the charging circuit temporarily disables itself until the radio cools down.

I saw both of these issues happen quite often during my testing of a loaner radio.

Mine wasn't overheating. I was using a 12 amp drill motor on the same circuit and apparently it took away the necessary amperage to run both the radio and charging circuits. The fact that it gave me the message prevented me from going into a minor panic that the radio might being going south on me. It's never happened since. It's been working like it should.
