• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I got a charging base, I was tired of using the cord to plug and unplug because the connection inside the G5 is very weak and the first one broke. Well now it charges but only 3/4 and the battery won't get me through an 8 hour day when before I could get 18-20 hours out of a charge.

I am also using a new battery and if I just use the charging cable it charges all the way and it will last way longer. Any ideas? I have cleaned the contacts but that didn't help.

Interesting. Does the green LED turn on when it's been on the charging base for a while?

Try putting the knob on a unused position and see if that makes a difference. It appears that after firmware 1.3 that the pager never actually turns off.

It shouldn't be necessary to turn it off to fully charge the battery. Mine is never turned off.

Yes, green light is on.

Just did that, I noticed it stops charging or at least the battery icon pauses when a call comes through sometimes, not always.

So I have had it on the charger since 3:00 just after my first post, says it's charging and it's only to half now, just shy of 6 hours, it has actually gone down being on the charger. Took it off the charger and now it's flashing out of range. Pulled battery, back in range but battery icon still reads half.

I've had issues with my G5 not always charging properly. Usually cleaning the contacts on the base of the pager and inside the charging cradle get it working properly again.

Isn't it generally a bad idea to leave it "on" while charging? I thought that applied to pretty much any radio/pager. Are guys leaving the pager on while in the charger and not killing batteries?

That's not really an issue with Li-ion batteries, but it can kill Ni-Cd and NiMH cells.
