Charging the 246T batteries?

Can you over charge the batteries (the ones that came with it) on the 246?

Or is there a limit on the time you leave it plugged in?

I think the charger automatically cuts off after 14 hours of charging the cells.

Still, I use a dedicated external charger specifically designed to condition and charge NiMH cells - like this one:

Best part is that if you upgrade to a BCD396T, this one will charge single cells (they don't have to be charged in pairs). So, it will charge three cells at a time fine.

As I've said before, if your cells short, I would rather risk a $30 charger than a $200 (or $500) scanner.

What's largest NiMh cell you can charge with it? I've seen 2500 MaH Double A's at Target Stores, & was wondering if this charger would handle them.

That's exactly what I use - 2500 mAH Energizers. I'm not sure there IS an upper limit to what they can charge. I know it will handle anything on the market today, and so will the ones I purchased years ago.

Ok, was just curious. Not long after I got the 246T I purchased a charger by Sony that came with 2300 MaH Double A's.
So in the future when the 2300's won't charge anymore, this charger should work OK with 2500's, though ut would take a bit longer.
Way battery technology appears to be going, we might see 5000 MaH Double A's in stores before long

They've really been topping out recently. I expect 3000 will take a year, and 4000 we may not see for several.

I'm not sure about the Sony charger. I was replying about the MAHA charger. I imagine the Sony would work, too, but I'm not sure.

the best aa cells that i have seen are the ge/sanyo cells that are currently at 2300mah. i charges a pair of these cells with a maha mh c777 and they took 3000 ma.
i made a battery pack 5 years ago out of 1600mah cells made by the same company and it still hods a charge to this day (not sure of capacity yet-i am checking that).

so far, the ge/sanyo cells get my approval. not sure if any other brand cells do as good as these do.

There is a link in one of the other NiMH threads on here. The 2500 Energizers won the shootout for the highest capacity. (even over other cells rated at 2500 mAH)
