I have a report from 'Jeff' in Va. that this system is indeed becoming alive.
All that's been seen so far is digital bursts on a tg1520.

Here are the freqs he lists:

SysID: A42E

866.5625
867.0625
868.2625
866.0750
866.3250
868.3750
868.6500
868.9000 data

FYI: I spoke with a CC dispatcher the other day and he stated that they, themselves had just received the first portable to begin testing. He also said that only one repeater site was operational at this time. I don't recall which part of the county it was in.

Since I have a T2 line at work, I decided to hit the FCC ULS
database to check the freqs that are attributed to Charles. Here's
the results utilizing the above freqs and the freqs mentioned in the March CHM newsletter:

866.0750 - not found in Md.
867.0500 - not found in Md.
868.9250 - not found in Md.

868.3750 - assigned to the new Harford county TRS
866.6250 - assigned to the Baltimore City TRS
867.4500 - assigned to Carroll County TRS, with 1 site in Baltimore
County
868.6750 - assigned to the Upper Md.Eastern Shore Consortium

So that leaves us with:
866.5625 - shared with Newcastle County, Del.
867.0625
868.2625
866.3250
868.6500
868.9000 - shared with Kent County, Del.

Since only 1 repeater is up, I guess we all have to wait until the system is fully operational to get a complete picture. Then Trunker (or control channel mode on the newer Trunktrackers) will be a big help.

Charles County TRS-encryption

Regarding the new TRS for Charles County, I recently read that everything would be analog, except for Animal Control and the Sheriff's Department. It went further to suggest that those two entities would not only be operating in digital mode, but would be encrypted as well. Can anyone advise whether or not this is likely? Has anyone heard anything about this?

Here's what I get by going to the FCC database...

There are four callsigns assigned to Charles County that encompass TRS transmitters in the county as follows:
WPZR834/WPZR835/WPZI729/WPZH908

WPZR834 and WPZH908 are assigned the following seven frequencies:
866.325, 866.5625, 867.0625, 868.2625, 868.375, 868.650, 868.900

WPZR834 transmits from the following six sites:
La Plata - 6845 Crain Highway
Nanjemoy - 4735 Pt. Tobacco Road
Waldorf - 3470 Rockefeller Court
Waldorf - 12305 Fillingsley Road
Indian Head - (Unknown address..listed as NSWC)
Marbury - 6645 Mason Springs Road

WPZH908 transmits from the following three sites:
Dentsville - 13140 Charles Street
Glasva - 11000 Crain Highway
Hughsville - 6707 Animal Shelter Road

WPZR835 and WPZI729 are assigned the following five frequencies:
866.0125, 866.5125, 867.0125, 867.5125, 868.0125

WPZR835 transmitting sites are co-located with WPZR834
WPZI729 transmitting sites are co-located with WPZH908

That gives us a total of 12 frequencies and nine transmitting sites in the county. I suspect that this is really intended to be two distinctly different nets - the first is the seven frequency, nine transmitting sites for the public safety net. The second five frequencies are meant to be a future second net (for who knows what purpose?) and, for obvious reasons, are co-located at the same nine transmitter sites.

The new ECC Building will be located on audie lane off radio station road in La Plata. Near the old fire lo-band transmitter.

The county has cleared 3 channels (866.325, 868.65, 868.9) for use. The remaining 5 channels (866.625, 867.05,
867.45, 868.675, 868.925) are pending.

The 868.900 trunking data channel is shared by an agency on the Eastern Shore. At my home on the Western Shore (Plum Point) the Eastern SHore agency completely over rides the Charles County system. I had the same experience driving through Dunkirk. I wonder if they are aware of the potential for mutual interference?
