Yes, the RCMP has had encryted talk groups for VIP visits for years. Long before the province wide
activation.

Typically the visiting dignitary unit will have their own comm's separate from any regional system since the RCMP doesn't use the same frequency band or systems across the country.

Deja Vu - just read this same topic on the scanmaritimes forum, so I'll post an identical response here:

I heard at least one radio with encryption turned off on the motorcade talkgroup yesterday, but everything today has been enc. So many RCMP talkgroups active, it's nuts.
