I read where some of the 800 system was damaged, anyone know what there using for primary communications. Is 800 interagency being used.
Charlotte County ? about Primary Communications now.

They are using a lot of simplex freqs. and HF FREQS. one is 14.265 mhz which is FL health & welfare recovery channel

I have a couple of cousins in Charlotte County and they have relayed to me that things are bad. They had to drive north to Sarasota County to use the phone. Power, phones, and water are not working. The business they own received major damage and my grandparents old house is in terrible shape.

The Charotte County 582B simulcast system is still operational according to my FSO service contacts. The Punta Gorda single site system went off the air and it's unknown as to what the failure was. Motorola expedited 300+ radios to the area and the NPSPAC MA repeaters are getting a workout.
4 cellsite towers were totally destroyed and coverage is spotty if not non-existent. Some of the companies brought in COW's but I can't comment on their performance.
Hams are using 2 repeaters that are out of the damaged areas and their requests include hams that have transportable mobile radios and magmount antennas. HT's alone don't cut it.

So what's the latest?
Also, I've heard that many hams are providing extrememly valuable service to the counties for relaying information between EOC's.
Also, anyone have any information regarding the PG single site system? We don't have anything in the database for it.

Within no more than 2 hours after the storm Amateur Radio Operators from Sarasota were in Port Charlotte and had established communications with the Sarasota County EOC and were the only communications for several days until other communication systems were put back on line. Also the same goes for Desoto County as Sarasota County sent a portable tower and trailer to Arcadia and had communications up and running via Ham Radio in several hours. Everything was being coordinated through the Sarasota EOC. Many Hams from Tampa went to Hardee County and Highlands County and established communications there. The Amateur Radio Community came to the rescue and is still operating in the affected counties as I type this.

Can you hear anything on the Sarasota system in reference to assistance. I do hear some things on the Lee County systems.

You can still hear stuff on the Venice repeater of 145.13Mhz w/a negative offset and no tone. Or you can hear the North Port Repeater of 147.12 w/ a positive offset and a tone of 136.5 Hz.
Just got back from the area as part of a CAT team that was deployed at the request of the Section EC and the EOC.
We provided communications for the Salvation Army and the Red Cross as well as the EOC that was still operating at the Charlotte ounty Airport.
ARES members are still at the staging area on Kings Highway relaying traffic between the EC and other officials.
NEXTEL service is slowly being resotred and as these other forms of communication come on line the need for Amature Radio declines.
But as stated in the first few days of a major disaster Ham radio is still the most reliable form of communication out there. Bar none just ask the National Guard who relyed on Hams in the first few days. Ham radio was the only form of communication that "got out" after the storm.
