I live in PA and listen to CFD on the University Streaming site and sometimes hear EMS units on the fire system.

It this a patch at EMS/fire Dispatch or do all the EMS units have Fire? Is an EMS unit normally assigned to all fire calls or is it a special call (and they then get assigned the Fire TG?

Thanks

Bob

I know others know more than I do but it does seem to be more and more common to hear EMS units switching to the Fire Ops channels for coordination. I don't think it's a patch, I think they actually change channels but could be wrong. They also use the Emergency Bridge channel for interagency coordination. The Bridge channel is basically a mutual aid channel between dispatch centers.

Hi Jon and Bob,
Bob, thanks for listening to Charlotte. Under normal conditions Medic (EMS) stays on the medic talk groups. When there is a confirmed working fire Medic is usually called for fire standby. At this time, they are given the working fire talk group (channel B through H). They just turn the radio to that TG. This way they can have direct communications with the fire units until they are released. I have also heard them talk with first-responder fire trucks on the fire TG to get patient updates.

I live in CO and have family in the Charlotte area, what is the URL for the Stream?

TIA
Steve
