In January, 2007 CMPD will begin using the new redistricting plan. This will change some radio pairings and talkgroups. There will be a new division called University, that is made up of parts of North and Hickory Grove. An example of the new pairings is that Hickory Grove and Independence (C3 and B3) will be paired on the radio. All the divisions will have some changes. The primary purpose is to even out the workload. Below is the official CMPD announcement found on their website. That site has links to the new maps.

"The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department last redrew its patrol division boundaries in 2000. Since then, the jurisdiction has experienced considerable population growth, especially in the outlying unincorporated area.
The result has been a growing workload (calls for service) imbalance and unequal staffing levels across the 12 patrol divisions. The department's redistricting plan addresses these problems and considers the impact of future development on the department's service in the community.
The new redistricting plan calls for the creation of a new, 13th patrol district and the reconfiguration of existing districts."
