Hi,

I am new to this scanner stuff. Where can I find a list of a few scanner frequencies that I can listen to with my Radio Shack scanner? I live in the Charlotte area and would like to listen to some police, fire, or ambulance frequencies. Thank you.

You are in the best place. Check the RR Database. It's got everything you need no matter where you are in the country. If you are in Meck Co. I hope you bought a trunking scanner. All of the Char/Meck activity is on 800. You can hear Medic on 462.950 and County Fire on 156.165 and that's about it on conventional freqs.

Tell us which scanner you have and that will help us get you going in the right direction.

You can find lots of freqency info in the Radio Reference Database (RRDB).

The main link is http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR

The NC link is http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&stid=37

The Mecklenburg County link is http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=1946

The Charlotte/Mecklengurn 800mhz Trunking System page is http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=282

Y0u need a scanner that can follow Motorola 800mhz trunking systems to hear anything useful in Charlotte. Except for the least espensive versions, most scanners that radioshack sells will work in Charlotte.
