Does anyone know if there will be a new north site transmitting the Charlotte\Mecklenburg trunked public safety system?

Have seen references to a new tower, but don't hear anything?

Can't imagine the new revamped system not having dedicated north coverage like before.

There is a new North Tower (as of July 1, 2004). It uses the same frequencies as the South Tower. You can find those frequencies in the RR Database.

CharMeck North - Thanks!

Thanks for the response.

Just trying to verify that something is on the air in the North Meck area.

Used to monitor the old north site here in Hickory just fine before all the changes. Now all I get is bad multipath flutter.

I have aimed the yagi every way possible. No joy. Could be that I am getting two sites at once.

It does not surprise me that you cannot pick up a signal from Hickory. I live right here in Huntersville and the old tower was much better than the new one.

The new tower is off Babe Stillwell Road. I believe this tower is actually lower than the old one which was near Sam Furr & Old Statesville Road. My house is closer to the new tower and I can hardly pick up a signal from here.

The different tower height and location probably means I lost good line of sight. Anderson Mtn. could also be a factor now.

Oh well, it was fun when I could listen!

Your info is much appreciated.

Jeff: I get a voice channel of what I presume is now the Char\Meck north site.

However, deep in the noise during quiet time, a signal is there. Could not say for sure what it is.

Thanks for the signal check.

860.7625 is the control channel for the Greensboro / Guilford system. They share 10 frequencies with the CMPD system, including 858.4875 (the CMPD control channel).

Considering Greensboro / Guilford is licensed for a higher ERP, I was curious whether they were impacting your reception of the CMPD system. When I'm in the Hickory area, I often find reception range east and west along the I-40 corridor very good.

Sounds like Greensboro's trunked system is not the cause of your reception problem.
