As of noon today it sounds like the transition is in process on both Fire and Police. I was picking up the new P25 Fire in the clear but have not heard a P25 Police transmission yet.

Fire changed over and right away. Got a BBQ fire. PD is changing over in a few moments. Police is 100% encrypted.
All fire groups other then Fire 5 (dispatch) is encrypted.

Fire is conducting test for each station right now. Every fire truck will log into the P25 system, confirm with dispatch they can hear each other and roll down the list of 19 stations.
Once that is complete police will do the same thing

More then likely. If its not encrypted right now it wont be changing.
At least dispatched calls can be heard, still so that's a plus

And now Station 3 is off for a boat on fire. So good test.. Chatham had their BBQ fire and now Wallaceburg with the boat fire with Chatham on the way.

I picked that up, I think on the repeater channel, some of the tests were on the repeater as well. Nice if they stayed in the clear.

The VHF paging isn't changing. All the fire guys would need new pagers, and no way C-K will be dumping all that money into nice Unication pagers when all they did here was buy old used radios and changed out the bricks. Most fire trucks still have the same old Orion scan control heads and cabled with a new used M7100 in it.

All C-K Public Works, Fire and Police have been changed over to the new system and are now live.

Can listen to Public Works and hear the fire pages still.. and the trucks returning to the hall. Oh so exciting!

*sigh*

And just when the scanner technology catches up, they will switch systems again... Time to find another hobby... Solitaire I guess.

Yup. Gotta take what we can get.

Hopefully, a 'crack' can be developed by Uniden. I CAN'T believe that with today's technology, scanners can't decode this stuff. You'd think we were dealing with top-secret military operations or something...

There goes $1000+ down the friggen drain...

Muxlow, any idea on what the price of a used -436 is going for? Fully unlocked with DMR, ProVoice, and NXDN

Would this mean the EDACS system is now offline

Correct. All LCN have been transfered over to the P25 system and the EDACS is now off the air. No life on the old control channel

No scanner manufacturer would ever, ever do this.... but this isn't the thread to discuss or debate it. And regardless, it's done... I'm amazed that EDACS system ran as long as it did. London shut theirs down 10 years ago.

Not to mention.. against the law to decode such transmission.

We are just lucky Fire 5 is still open to listen to the pages still. The very, very, VERY horrid sounding tones coming from the P25 system now. They sounded nice and normal on EDACS and now sound like total garbage

Hope Thames cleans up the audio settings soon on them because, Good God.

Only ones in the last many years has been two radios belonging to a farmer, and the corn detasslers.
Farmers were talking yesterday..I assume they got bumped over to OnQ since Thames deals Kenwood.
Hasn't really been much other commercial users.

I've got logs going back to when the EDACS first came alive (2005 or so) when I started to use UniTrunker.

397 in 2014 for a weekend they had some guys doing some C-K Cup thing. Sounded like a hockey event across Chatham-Kent and they were giving scores.
391 Dave Craig Towing was on there 2011 or so (no longer use radios)
395 396 Couple re-used rental groups
405 was the farmers
406 the corn detasslers
390 was Postma Heating and Cooling (no longer use radios)
433/434 Sky's Trucking, not sure if they went to OnQ but I'm quite sure they did
437 Chatham-Kent Handi Bus ran by Voyageur last seen 2018

Been monitoring the new P25 system all afternoon. Scanner has 'stopped' on the encrypted police talkgroups (but no audio of course), yet I haven't heard Fire Dispatch as of yet. Will keep my ears peeled.

Update: Just heard a dispatch call. AWFUL audio. The good news? It appears as though the analog repeaters are still functioning on 154.5550 as I'm hearing the firefighters talking.

Yep. The fire repeater channels that have always been analog are still analog. The nice Kenwood NX5000's the firefighters carry are only programmed for 2 analog channels for the repeaters in the trucks

Little preview of how lovely the tones are

Given how comical Thames maintained and ran the old EDACS system, this migration is going to be interesting to watch how it all unfolds over the coming months...

I saw a report someplace few years ago about Fire, Police and Works all own their own radios, and Thames maintains the system. Yet they charge each dept X many bucks per year.. sorta like triple dipping.

All they did here was change out the site repeaters, got Public Works "new" radios. Fire got what I assume is recycled M7100's to replace their Orions as Fire still has the same Orion scan heads in the trucks and the Kenwood NX5000's programmed in analog and not P25. PD has a mix of M72/7300 mobiles and P7200/P5400 portables. No truck/car repeaters were changed out. No antennas change on the towers or vehicles. So any coverage issues I'm sure will still be an issue.

Tilbury-Wheatley area seems to be the worst. Be interesting to see how long until everyone starts to complain about reception issues again.
Wish C-K would of looked elsewhere for the replacement system.

Lambton Fire use to be on EDACS with Thames and had trouble all the time that never got fixed. Then they left EDACS and went DMR with Spectrum. Spectrum did all sorts of testing for a few months across Lambton and fixed dead zones. Thames just did a few random tests over the last few months and more or less just said ok.. switch over and good luck :D
