While we were driving through the valley today we found a new site of the TVRCS. It's the second site for Roane County, TN. Not sure where n Roane it is but it's smokin all the way down into Dayton like the Roosavelt Mnt. Site # 0230.
New site ID is 02A5h-0217
769.35625 primary control channel
771.08125 secondary control channel
772.00625
772.90625
774.46875

I can hear the new Roane Co. site, I can't hear Windrock from my location in the middle of Roane Co. but this site comes in to me 2/3 of 5 bars on my 996xt and site 230 is full strength (but it's pretty much line of sight)

396t P25 C-Ch Only Mode

You may be too far away to hear the control channel for the Roosavelt Mnt. site that serves Roane County - which by the way, there is no simulcast system for Roane. They use stand alone sites like everywhere else outside of Chattanooga. You should be able to hear the Black Road and Sharps Ridge sites in Knox County. On my 396t I program the trunked system as "p25" and enter the control channel, using control channel only mode.
While listening today, heard 1539 which the guys said was Tennessee State Net. They then went to 16001, what they called TEMA Tac-1, then 16002 which they called TEMA Tac-2, then 16003 which they called TEMA Tac-3. 16019 is TEMA State EOC.
By the way, does anyone know about sites 16 and 18? One is Cross Mnt, the other is Windrock Mnt, both in Anderson County. Which is which?
BG..

I have been listening to the system using sites, but would like to try control channnel only mode on my 396t. I don't see C-Ch Only mode under P25. Is this a limitation of my 396t? I have firmware version 3.02.02

I think 018 is Windrock. I've listened to it in Kingston, but couldn't pick up 016 so I'm guessing that one is Cross.

Antenna/Band opening

Any opinions on a mid-priced car roof or home antenna for monitoring the system with a 396t? I was thinking of going to Radio Shack, but would be willing to order one more long-term. I can pick-up a particular control channel standing at the edge of my driveway, but inside the house or car it doesn't pick up. I have pretty good vehicle coverage I think because I can hit on multiple control channels around Knox county, but would like to improve it. Was there some sort of band opening earlier? I heard Catoosa SO Priority TGID 2069 while on Pellissippi Parkway towards I-40, and yes it was actually that channel because they called “Unit XXX to Catoosa."

Depending on how its set up and if an actual radio is tuned in to that channel on the site you're listening to, the traffic may be carried on a Knox Co. site.

I don't know how effective it is (that it makes it worse or better) but in my car I have a RadioShack CB magnet mount on top that runs inside so that when I have my 996XT in there, I can connect it to it.

You could probably go to RadioShack and get or order a specific 800mhz antenna or something of that nature.

Guys and Gals

In Knoxville for a couple of days on business. Ran PRO96COM on sites this evening and figured out several alternate control channels - database updated.

System for Roane County sounds excellent!!!

More systems to confirm with UNITRUNKER, etc.

Speaking of Pro96com, I was looking at the adjacent sites, and on the Roane County site(230), it lists site 121 with a cc of 851.3500. I did a database search and that frequency is used at the correctional facility in Morgan county.

How would the 121 site id convert to the IDs in the database? Pro96com shows a ID of 230 for the Roane county site while the database shows 2-030. Would the Morgan county site be 1-021?

The Chattanooga site lists site 190 773.55625 as adjacent. No hits for this one in Tennessee or Georgia in the database. It also list site 122, but this is the Murfreesboro site, but for some reason it is not pulling in the description in the program, wonder if the ID in the database is incorrect?

Noticed that also... wonder if they are switching TN-DOC over???

Correct on both counts.
PRO96COM site id's are 4 digits long. 1st two are the zone, last two are the actual site.
There's also some hexadecimal vs decimal stuff that's confusing.

I'll run PRO96COM on Site 219 (Knox County) and Site 222 (Lenoir City) tonight after my business visit. Couldn't get them at the hotel location, but can hear them loud and clear down toward the airport.
Also logging and trying to figure out individual Radio ID's (RID's).

Thanks for the continued submissions - it's always fun when a new system like this goes on line.

I do truly hope this is the standard that Tennessee goes to for a statewide system. Used to live/work over around Clarksville and their UHF LTR Passport intermingled with 800Mhz EDACS (Clarksville), Motorola 380Mhz (Ft Campbell), VHF Low Band (THP), VHF High-Band (TEMA), and UHF Conventional just doesn't work. The TN Valley system works!!!

Yes, they are going to be part of this system

Me too. We do have some issues in Sevier County with Nexedge and an UHF LTR system. Hopefully they make the switch to the P25 system.

I bet the Murfreesboro site ID in the database should be changed to 1-022

I am not sure, I asked the question a few pages back, but it makes sense if it is. I have tried to prepare my father in law in case it is. I do no think he will shell out $500 for a digital scanner.

On a P25 system, you only enter the Control Channels. C-Ch Only is for Type II systems that might be using P25.

Not if Land Air Communications has anything to say about it or until the county starts bidding out their communications like they should.
