Not yet,

TVRCS is being built as we speak. Once all the microwave links have been established look for the 700/800MHz transmitters to start popping up. Once that happens sometime this summer there will be stuff to program. Go back up a few posts in this thread and put the 800MHz freqs assigned to Hamilton County in and wait for them to become active.

It's legal...

The FCC just granted Chattanooga the license WQKJ 941 to operate the primary simulcast portion of the P-25 TVRCS.
Moderators/administrators, could it be time to start adding TVRCS to Hamilton County with the frequencies, Google Maps site locations, etc?

P25 On the air

It appears the Hamilton County four-site simulcast of the TVRCS P25 system is now firing a control channel on 856.2375 with a system ID of 02A5h-0201. It's very weak and I'm not sure from where it's transmitting yet.

Yea, the same goes for 856.7625 and 857.7125. I'm not seeing something properly though. I have the mode set for P25 Auto and am getting weird numbers and syste ID. What mode setting should I have it set for? Thanks.

The SY:2A5 R002 S001 then signal=90% N---- W:BEE00

Brief Voice Message Today

I don't know if anyone else was monitoring this system this afternoon between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., I briefly heard digital audio that was garbled on talkgroup 00245. The last conversation I could barely make out was 'how about now', but it to was garbled. This was monitoring control channel 856.76250 with a Pro96 scanner at 99% decoding. The control channel sounds like it is 50 miles away. I went driving around Bradley and Hamilton counties the other day and it didn't matter where I went, it still sounded like it was 50 miles away even though it was decoding at 99%. They may not have the system operating at full power.

Just one site, for now

The control channel is back to 856.2375, so it looks like 856.7625 is an alternate CC?
After extensive driving through the area in the last week it seems apparent this system is only firing from the White Oak site, the one above I-75 near Mahan Gap. It also seems like it's not the full power of 200 watts ERP as the FCC license shows? The signal seems strong toward Soddy Daisy, patchy in the city but with some strong areas in Brainerd. It smokes in parts of Ringgold with full bars on the 396, even better in places where the city analog system only registers a few bars on the meter. Wierd.

Listen up

It sounds like the techs are about to put another or maybe all four HamCo sites on the air soon. The signal strength has been at times full bars, then lowering to half, then to nothing, then to 1 bar as it's been the last week. I also saw TG id's 1 and 256 pop up. They were keying up but no voice. This only happened when system was full strength. Up until now only the White Oak Mnt. site was on but something else is obviously about to happen. So far 856.2375 appears to be primary CC, with 856.7625 and 857.2375 being alternate CC's.

Expect fulll site testing at full power soon, with an extended range testing for at least a month before any "official" agencies go on for testing. This seems to be the basic safe pattern after individual site testing at 50 percent power, then full power. It will be fun watching this one grow. If it proves successful, maybe the state will use it for the backbone of the statewide net but who knows. This is how a couple of statewide systems got started- SAFE-T, VIPER, AWIN.... Keep listening guys.

More testing

Seems like the P25 system is operating at more signal strength in some places. Around the immediate Chattanooga area it's not quite as strong as the analog system, according to the s-meter on my 396. But In Bradley County it seems stronger, as well as parts of Catoosa County. Can anybody confirm whether the Collegedale site is on-line?
As for talk groups there's been a lot of chatter on 256, but it's encrypted and I can only assume it's the techs installing the system. Talkgroup 1 has been radio shop, and some other voice testing on 1115. I did see talkgroup 3 pop up and heard some weird noise on it.
After visting one of the Georgia sites I found the microwave dishes are up and pointing to other Georgia sites and some of the primary sites in Hamilton County.
Anybody else hear/add anything?

Heard some talking on "1" this morning. One of the guys stated that he was about 30 miles out from the site, and it sounded good. He also stated that there would probably be 2 to 3 other sites between where he was and the site he was working off of, so the coverage should be great!

Collegedale

Driving through the East Brainerd area and Collegedale it's apparent the Collegedale P25 site is on the air, but I'm not sure if it's at full output yet. The s-meter on a Undien 396 isn't scientific but gives some good clues. Anyway, the new P25 signal is very strong in places where the analog system is either very scratchy or doesn't make it. Areas along East Brainerd Road where it's two-lane out to Ooltewah give a full-scale signal now, big improvement in this hilly area. This also explains why the signal is much stronger now in Catoosa and Bradley counties. The back side of White Oak Mnt. in Collegedale is no longer an issue with a full-scale signal, where the analog system is scratchy at best.
The FCC license shows the White Oak site is allowed up to 230 watts ERP, way up from the 160 watts ERP for the analog system. Collegedale is now licensed to pump out up to 215 watts ERP.

New 700MHz site

The City of Chattanooga was just granted a license to operate a P25 site that's part of TVRCS on Sale Creek Mnt, WQKP624.
769.25625
771.10625
772.45625
773.93125
774.91875
It's licensed for up to 230 watts ERP.
I'm told it's on the air with a site ID as 02A5h-0213, but can't hear from my location.

A couple of other APCO-25 systems are set up like that for coverage,... If the area is saturated with 800 they throw in 700 to expand... The State of AR AWIN has one 700 site, the MARCS has mixed 700/800, the STARCOM is also mixed. Thats one of the great things about the ASTRO-25 (Motorola ASTRO 7.X) platform, and indeed, the majority of P-25 infrastructures, they are able to mix any of the trunking, and conventional bands using P-25 to form a single system. You can have a wide area net with say twenty to thirty 800 sites, ten 700, three UHF, and a couple of VHF all trunking together, and even a couple of conventional sites patched in.

Thank goodness for this website. There's no way anyone could keep up with the changes without it! I'm proud to be a part of it! Thanks.
