Hi All! Just wondering how many of you new amateur operators are from the Chattanooga TN area (including N. GA and surrounding counties). KJ4TVL here! Got my Technician ticked April 2010 and upgraded to General the first of this month (March 2011). I know new hams are always looking for someone local to talk with about local events, repeaters, clubs, etc. Just chime in if you wish. You can send me PM's if you need specific info you do not want published in the forum. 73's and enjoy the new adventure!

I live in Coffee county, west of you. Congrats on the general ticket. Got my tech in April last year and got my general in October. Got my nose in the book for extra now.

I'm so limited a tthe moment due to living in an apartment, which allows NO outside antennas. I'm boing to try some sort of indoor antenna later, when I can afford some more equipment. I only have two (2) HT's at the moment. I would love to get with some of the older hams and observe some. I hve the book knowledge, but really need the "hands on" experience. Field Day last year was the greatest thing for me. Looking forward to it in a few months! 73's

hcpholder I am in Colorado so I can only speak for my own area. I am also a new ham and know how you feel.

Go to a club meeting near you, with your radio. They will probably help you set it up for the local frequencies for free. These folks are generally super helpful and friendly to fellow hams, especially new guys.

Also, there are lots or repeaters all over the US, I bet you can hit one with your radio. That's another way to connect with others. Repeaters are also where "nets" are usually held on certain nights of the week, where you can meet other hams on air. You can find those by doing a online search for them in your area. They are usually focus groups talking about radio stuff, and you can learn a lot from just listening, but they will welcome you to participate if you wish.

Last, but as important, there is a state by state listing here on RadioReference, towards the bottom of the forums page:

Tennessee Radio Discussion Forum - The RadioReference.com Forums

I hope that helps. have fun!

Thanks Joseph. I've been a member of a local club for some time. It's just that folks aren't too active at this time. I just wanted a place to welcome new hams in the area and assist, as s new ham, any way I can. Have a great day! KJ4TVL
