and do some homework with some searches to find the ins and outs on this radio. It is almost certainly a big step up from a DX394 or PRN1000 - by a long shot.

As I understand it, any serial number starting with 6 or higher has selectable sync sideband, which can be a great help in alleviating interference issues.

Well, at least the reviews on eHam were 4+. I've had my Kenwood R2000 for nearly 30years and it's still a good'un.

I bought a used R-2000 back in 1987 from Universal Radio. It was a great radio. I especially liked the audio. It was the first SW radio I owned that had digital display. The display finally bit the dust around 2005 and I sold it for parts.
