I'm currently using a RS2006 with an opto456 board in it as a contol channel baseband audio monitor. I'd like to free it up for trunked system monitoring and replace it with an easily tappable, CHEAP (preferably base station) scanner with readily available instructions on where to tap that is capable of picking up 700 & 800 mhz bands. Any suggestions? Got one for sale?

The challenge will be to find something that covers 770 Mhz. Most older models have a gap between 512 and 806 Mhz. The PSR-410 and BCT15X both cover 770 Mhz and can be bought new for under $200. They don't do P25 but can be tapped to run whatever decoding software you wish.

Hmmm. OK, skip the 700mhz rqmnt. I was trying to future proof myself for when the new San Diego city system comes on line but it's digital so the 2006 with optoscan is useless. I probably won't be able to use it as a control channel monitor either as they have some weird freqs in the 770 band. So all i need is a cheap modifiable 800mhz receiver now...

The Pro-2006 will receive 700 MHz. That is what I use for Unitrunker.
It won't do 6.25 kHz steps that are used in the 700 MHz band so you have to round off to the nearest 5 kHz.

Older Uniden models are plentiful on eBay.

You should be able to find a used BC895XLT for $70 to $100 on eBay. No 770 Mhz but lots of open space inside for a tap (and they support computer control with a home-made cable).

You should be able to get a BC780XLT for even less.

An Icom PCR100 will go for a few $$$ more.

eBay: pcr100

Not a base model, but the PRO-83/84 can be had for cheap ...

Wow, what am I thinking (no comments from the gallery please...) I have 3 Radio Shack PRO-43s I was going to put on ebay. Might as well use one of them, heck I even have Bill Cheeks tapping instructions. It's not a base, but the price is right!

Anyone want to trade one (or 2) for a BC895XLT or a BC780XLT?
