Hello ,

I'm in north Edmonton and recently moved into a home a block away from Londonderry shopping mall , I have successfully found that I can listen to the mall security DMR and other local DMR frequencies on my laptop via an SDR program .

I want to pickup a cheap handheld Chinese DMR radio from Aliexpress to monitor these frequencies easier .

I was looking at the baofeng 1801 and found it relatively inexpensive online . I don't know much about DMR handhelds , I am needing to know if something like this would work for what I need .

Thanks

I did look at the DR 1801 and it has the correct frequency range and does have DMR. I'm no Baofeng expert but I did have the analog VHF and UHF model and it worked for me for monitoring. It was small and fit in a shirt pocket.

The SDR program should give you all the information to listen, but you should make sure when you program the frequencies you make them receive only. I need to mention if you plan on listening to multiple frequencies (scan mode) the scan is very slow. But, yes, it will work.

the Hoosier state, baby.
There’s also the Ailunce HD1. Around $200 USD, IP67 dust & waterproof rated, VHF/UHF conventional & DMR operating modes. Has front-panel-programming for on the fly. The FPP can be a bit tricky for DMR, but once you get the hang of it, it isn’t too terrible. It feels hefty, too. Very quality radio for the price range.
I may or may not have accidentally dropped it off a roof (40 feet or so) and it completely survived with barely a scuff on the case.
