I just got a Uniden BCT8 - it's great. I was a little dissapointed that alphanumeric labelling seems to be an "extra". I was also a bit frustrated that I can't really mount it in the car. (That's more the car's fault than the scanner. All these bubble shaped cars with flowing curves.)
Scanning is fun and all, but what I really wanted is not so much a scanner, but a receive only fire radio with channel labels. I'd consider handheld but a slim mobile would be better. I don't need gazillions of channels. I don't need to listen in on norad. 1 trunked system, maybe 20 talk groups, with one priority channel/talkgroup - That's all I need. It would be cool if it could alert on tones instead of trying to tell me that the highway patrol is waiting over the hill, but I'm not holding my breath (yeah right).
Are there any inexpensive mobile/handheld alphanumeric trunkers around? Cheapest trunker I've seen is the RS-Pro94, but it doesn't appear to do alpha.
