Really it depends on what you desire to scan. You haven't told us where you are, what systems are being utilitized in your area, whether you need an analog or digital type scanner.

Which scanner would that be?

That is actually a very broad question and you might end up witih a scanner that wont do the systems you want to hear. Dak48 is right with asking you where you are in Michigan, it helps to find the area in the database to see what kind of 800mhz system you are seeking to listen to whether its digital or analog.

Be armed with information from RR Wiki main page (top of this page) where 8 scanner manufactures are listed with several scanners each. Each describing what they will do. However, no pricing is available but goggle will guide you to pricing outlets simply by typing the scanner model in the search box, or strart the company at top right of this page.

Rivers, go to the Michigan forum, let folks know where you are and let them tell you what they are using in your area. Go to the database for your county/state and look them up - get familiar with the listing. Use the wiki as fmon suggested to research compatible scanners for your area. Links for both are in the top blue toolbar.

This is a game of research, and it helps to ask the right questions for the right area. I do know that Michigan has an extensive digital network, so it's very likely a digital trunktracker is going to be needed.
