Went to Battle Creek today, some spectacular flying.
The F-4 & F-22 took off about noon, supposedly flew to Traverse City, then were back an hour or so later.
Both did a few passes & landed.
A couple aerobatic acts, then the F-18 demo did his routine.
Next was the Harrier, who put on a great show, haven't seen one of these flying a show in years.
He did a mixture of [relatively] high speed, and spent a full 10 minutes or so in hoover mode, going backwards ect.

Much to my delight, a F-22 & F-4 took off again around 3:30 [There was two of every jet, including the Phantom, so I'm not sure if these were the same that flew earlier or not].
F-22 flew his show, not a cloud in the sky.
Pretty amazing, safe to say this aircraft can do things that no other aircraft can even think about doing, without risking a crash.
Then joined up with the F-4 for a few heritage fly-bys, very nice.

I thought that was it, but an F-18 took off after that, and flew his routine.
All in all, a very impressive display all day, probably won't even do this much flying on the show days.
I'm guessing that the F-18s of course know whos scheduled to fly, but since something could happen to the scheduled pilot, not enough sleep for example, or a minor illness, the other would have to fly ,,, And so they both had to practice their show routine, so thats why both flew.
Or maybe ones scheduled for SAT, the other for SUN, so both had to practice today.
Either way, was very nice to see 2 complete F-18 demos in 1 day.

Had about 15 freqs entered that I looked up real quick, 5 or so were fairly active, including comms with the Raptor.
My apologies, didn't make a note of which were active, was baking out in the sun enjoying myself all day, and didn't even think I'd be posting about it.
Found a great, panoramic spot, kinda hard to describe since I don't know the area well.
Was on a little hill with a cemetery across one side of the street, and the airport across the other.
You'd go past [what I assume to be] the main entrance to the show, where the carnival is at [assuming you are heading the same way I was, coming off 94 westbound and following the airport signs].
Come to a dead end light, turn left, take another quick right at a light half a block down, when you make that turn, you'll see the hill right in front of you.
Look for a little trail that leads up the hill to the left shortly after the turn, cars as well as pickup trucks would have no problems with it,,, And you are there.
Look for it to be packed early, and possibly blocked off by the cops.
Might be able to park somewhere else and walk up it if thats the case ,, I drove around the whole perimeter of the airport, seemed to be an abundance of potentially great spots ,, But of course that depends on how energetic they block things off.

They are barricading off most of the prime grassy viewing areas in the immediate vicinity, some for parking, some just to keep crowds away from flight paths.
I unfortunately won't be able to make if for the weekend shows.

Hornets are alot of fun to watch - Powerful, loud machines.
I like the F-14, of course the odds of seeing one of those in the sky any time are rather slim.
Phantoms also I have a craving for, I grew up watching them.

Its pretty easy to see the lineage of the F-18 in the F-22.
I personally think the F-23, the jet that lost the 4th gen competition, was superior to the F-22 in both looks and performance.
