I've heard an Engine 24 several times lately on Chesterfield Fire & EMS. Does anyone know the location of this engine? Last I heard the newest station was #20 on Courthouse Road. They didn't identify as Quint 24 or Richmond Engine 24 and the call was not near the city, so I dont think it was a Richmond Quint.

Chesterfield's Mystery Engine!

Long explination.

About 6 months ago, the career staff was moved out of Fire Station 10 due to a horrible mold problem in the career area of the station. Because Station 10 owned by the volunteers, the volunteer engine (E210) and brush (B10) remained there, while Engine 10 and Medic 10 were moved to Manchester Rescue Station 1 (Courthouse & Hull St).

It's now been decided that the career staff will NOT be moving back to FS10, therefore, E10 and M10 have been re-designated E24 and M24, and will be moved to Station 24 whenever that's built. Until then, E24 and M24 will continue to run from RM1.

E210 has been re-designated E10, and will only be dispatched on calls when staffed. Otherwise, E20 and E24 will cover the calls in E10's first due.

On a related note, if you hear "Engine 23" on the Chesterfield radio, it's actually Engine 224 from DSCR down on Jeff Davis.

Hope this helps...

Another Chesterfield Update...

As of this date, when Rescue 3 and Rescue 14 are replacing the truck company at Stations 7, 9, or 12, they will be known as R7, R9, or R12, respectively.

I was wondering why Station 10 was getting to calls so quick around Courthouse and 360. I've been in Station 10 and it's old and dingy so I'm not surprised of the mold problem. Are they marking the engine with 24 on the side or are they remaining 102 or 10?

Engine 24 has already placed a "24" on the grill, but will still have the old markings for Company 10 for some time on the sides. CFEMS has been slow to remove the old apparatus numbers for some reason.

In other CFEMS news, the volunteers at Philips (Co 13) and Midlothian (Co 5) have recently been awarded DHS grants to replace thier pumpers, which are 1974 and 1983 models, respectively. For those keeping score at home, that's Engine 13 and Engine 205.
