Does anyone have an idea of what Unit 39's new unit number is? It's currently at Station 7 in place of Truck 7. The only thing it says on the side is "Chesterfield Fire Department" and it's got a big 39 in the front left corner. It looks like a Haz-Mat, Rescue or Air Utility Truck to me but I'm not quite sure what exactly it is. It's definately in older truck, maybe from the late 1970's to 1980's. I haven't heard any out-of-the-ordinary trucks dispatched anywhere in Station 7's first due. Any help would be appreciated!

Rescue 3

That's a 1990 Mack CF/Saulsbury one of 2 that were bought in 1990, the other one was lost to a LODD in 1999.
It fills in and runs as either "Rescue 7" when truck 7 is out of service or "Rescue 9" when truck 9 is out of
service.

The Pierce that is now Rescue 14 replaced a 1984 Mack/Swab that has been sold to a Volunteer Fire Department in western Va.

Thanks for the info. I actually heard him as RESCUE 7 this morning, but you beat me to posting it. It seems that TRUCK 7 has been out of service a lot lately. Now, does this unit only fill-in when TRUCK's 7/9 are out of service for a long period of time?

They just replaced Truck 9 with a new Platform and I think new truck 7 is on order, and the current one is going to be a reserve truck.

Old truck 9, 90 Mack/Baker is going to be sold, that one and old truck 7 have got to be worn out, I miss the tractor drawn ones, Tilling and riding tail board (I know it was dangerous so is life!!!) were career highlights.

The current Truck 7 is relatively new. It's definately a 2000 or newer Pierce. Could they be replacing it already?

Truck 7

Truck 7 is a 1996 model, one of the first Quantum Pierces and the first "All Steer" trucks built.

It gets run into the ground to many ems calls before 7 got a medic unit . It has a huge first due, next due trucks is 25 minutes away (truck 9) or(truck 14)

Fins is right, 7-Truck is a 1996, and was the first Quantum aerial ever built. It will become the county reserve piece when their new Quantum aerial is delivered in the February time frame. At that time, the last remaining Mack/Aerialscope, the dual-axle 75' model that originally started at 3-Truck and is now the reserve, will be disposed of.

So, do you think the new Pierce Quantum will look similar to the '96 that Station 7 currently has? I noticed that the Quantum's style has seemed to stay very similar throughout the years.

Should be almost the same, the Quantum Chassis have changed a little bit, The new one will be a 105' rear mount with a 2000 GPM pump and 270 tank, so actually it is a Quint.

The Quantum will look similar to the older generation, the easiest difference way to tell the difference is that the new one will have four round headlights instead of two square ones. Engine 20 is the only other Chesterfield apparatus with the newest generation Quantum cab.

Fins - does it technically have the hose bed capacity and ground ladder compliment to fall under the "quint" designation? :) Just bustin' your chops...

That's what I was wondering. When it does arrive, will it be called "Quint 7"?

No, it will NOT be Quint 7. It will have the same basic specs as T-3, T-9, and T-14, which can be run as quints (which was done a few years ago during a manpower crunch), but are still referred to as trucks.

FYI, NFPA 1901 states that for an aerial to be a "true" quint, it must have:
  • An aerial device of at least 75'
  • At least a 1000GPM pump
  • At least 300 gallons of water
  • At least 85' of ground ladders
  • Hose bed of 30 cubic feet for supply line and two hose beds of 3 cubic feet for pre-connects
