Hi

When I watch Chicago Fire and Chicago Med and they never use EMT Channel. And my question is how dose the Paramedic know what medicine to give to the person that needs it without the EMT.

thanks

Paramedic is trained above the level of an EMT. You get EMT first then train up to paramedic.

Areas are different but in general, EMTs are restricted heavily on what medicines they can administer, as in just a handful.

It's a TV show and not based on reality no matter how much they try and advertise it. We follow SMO's (Standing Medical Orders), and perform a majority of skills and called it in enroute. It's not exciting TV, so no need to show it.

Google Region 11 EMS .all the SMO's are downloadable.

Yeah, a paramedic is basically just shy of a RN. My kid is a lieutenant/paramedic here and actually has a RN degree.

Standing Orders - training that xyz condition is treated with zyx medication at a dose/rate based on the patients height/weight etc
.

Even EMT's (varies by state etc) have standing orders to follow

Not every call requires an Medical Consult over the radio, or even an entry notification
