Does anyone happen to have a codeplug for Chicago Fire P25 for a Motorola XTS3000 - receive only? I picked up an XTS3000 to monitor CFD while in town. Otherwise any programming tips for their system? Thanks in advance!

The P25 Main and Englewood Fire are what to listen to. On larger operations there will be activity on the EMS Command and Fire Command. The Fireground is low power on the radios so you need to be somewhat close to hear any action. If you program your radio to the first zone of this list you will be set Chicago Fire Department Radio

Use CQPSK for the P25 mode.

Note: the system covers the city very well, but it does not go nearly as far as it used to when VHF was used. Even 10-15 miles outside of city limits you can run into reception issues, sometimes even less.

While there are more transmitters now, the antenna height and power are well reduced from the VHF days.

Just an update - I just got back from Chicago - I took my XTS3000 that I programmed up for the digital fire. I also put PD in too. WOW! So much better than a scanner! I turned it on around Schaumburg , and instantly after the power on tone I heard the P25 fire North/Main channel talking away! I monitired FD and PD ll over Chicago (north and south side) with no issues. At our hotel downtown, my Uniden scanner missed so much but the Motorola was non stop receiving :) Thanks for the info - it was a success!
