Air Show Info

-Joel reports CPD detail supervisors are configued and operating this
morning. "AIR-1" through "AIR-6", and so tagged. Keep an ear out for
them on the usual CPD freqs.

-376.025 (AM) I had some traffic on here this morning. Air to Air
stuff between two unidentified planes, likely either the ACC's F-16 or
more likely the F-15's demo team from the USAF.

-125.600 (AM) Caught a pilot leaving Gary this morning. He was going
up the lakeshore for visual spotting of the show box, which is
apparently already configured and has a "floor" of 1700 feet. From
here he went to 118.400, the Chicago ARSA south sector - which is
normally paired with 388.000 (AM). From there he worked Midway Tower
on 118.700, and did a couple of circuits north from Northerly Island.

-123.150 (AM) Caught an unknown team practing loops here. Cant confirm
as an airshow specific team, but will likely be a good freq for the
weekend.

-122.725 (AM) Caught another team here working air to air at an
unknown location. Another likely good freq to keep an ear on.

-No sign of the Blue Angels flying in, yet...

Happy Scanning! - Ted

Thursday Report

I was amazed to find the platform set up and staffed for a Thursday spotting run. Trouble was, there were no ATC people there and they never plugged in and performed the actual ATC function. Still, I caught a couple of key-ups on 348.000 (AM), and I suspect it is the UHF Platform frequency for the weekend. There is an evening show at Gary tonight, sounds like it's running right now. Hearing air to air traffic on 123.150 as I type this.

Staff has the usuual Moto Comm Direct UHF simplex rental radios. Staff was using only two channels today:

469.8625 (D244) Security
467.1125 (D606) Staff & Labor

139.8125 (000.0) (FM) Blue Angels Ground (analog)
284.2500 (AM) Blue Angels Delta
275.3500 (AM) Blue Angels Diamond
305.5000 (AM) Fat Albert & Ground Spotters
237.8000 (AM) Solos Comm 2
255.2000 (AM) Solos Comm 1

I also had some unaccounted for Scout hits on:
469.9125
469.9875
469.8875

Blue Angels were the only performers today. As others noted, Sean D. Tucker was doing some flight ops with one or two other unidentified aircraft, probably photo-ops stuff, south of the show site. Blue Angels coordinated the airspace with him on 123.475 (AM).

Caught a lot of park district and LPZ activity on 151.190 and 151.295, both 114.8 Hz PL Tone in repeat mode.

Just caught DARK42 and DARK## coordinating operations on 398.950. One returning to O'Hare and the other en-route Gary. I'm assuming these are the B1's. Still looking for a "real" air to air for these big boys. Hearing a jet demo team (F-15's?) talking now on 376.025 (AM).

AM 1650 has the Lakeshore Traffic Advisory broadcast going.

Red Baron Stearman sitting parked on the tennis court north of the baseball diamond at the south end of Lincoln Park.

The Military Channel has a film crew at the show this year.

My thanks to all the CARMA members who came out for the mini-show today, it was great to see you all there, special thanks to Jeff.

Platform

125.175 appears to be the VHF Platform frequency for the show at Gary this evening. This also makes it a good bet for the VHF Platform frequency for the Chicago Lake Front this weekend, possibly paired with 348.000. If we get some flying weather tomarrow I should be able to confirm them both. Happy Air Show! - Ted

Keep a close ear on the Blue Angels frequencies (listed above). The pilots are an absolute BLAST to listen to during shows. I have heard them in the past on one of their alternates of 251.4.

KC10 is callsign OPEC

I'm pretty sure CFD EMS is on the T-Band digital system. Lots of them tooling around on Segues ("Segways"???) and carrying cutting edge Moto UHF digital capable handhelds.

Scout counter got lots of hits on the previously reported UHF simplex show ops freqs plus a bunch of other interstitials in the 469 Mhz ranges, merits searching. You'll find the Castaways staff there. It's totally booked all weekend.

Intermod central, my Icom R2 actually got swamped out for the first time when I walked out to the shore line.

Great show today, just hazy and humid. Thanks to all who came out, it was great to see you all there.

Come to the show! Way fun.

Happy Scanning! - Ted
