Who posted the latest info on this system? The reason why i'm asking is, before you make "updates" , please give the system a little more than a day or two of listening. All of the "unknown" Talkgroups, actually have designations. Please send me a PM or e-mail me, and we'll compare notes. On a personal note, this aggravates the poop out of me when people post "updates" and others that don't know any better, post this information on other sites. Please people, let's make our changes only when we can "confirm" a majority of our information.....Dave

Ok, I see another "update" has occured. Yes TG 80 is one O.E.C.'s active Talkgroups. However, the "Narcotic Surveillance" Talkgroups need to be modified. States Attorney w/Teletrac? Where has the "teletrac" Talkgroup been added? Do you know what Tele-Trac is? Next we'll be seeing Narcotics Talkgroup with wireroom, which is incorrect. I've been listening to this system for 10 years when it was a 3 Channel Trunking System with 12 Talkgroups intially. It has grown. If you follow the Chicago Police Dept. , you know the Intelligence Unit has been disbanded. They have merged it with Gang Investigations thereby creating the Narcotics and Gang Investigations Section (N.A.G.I.S.) So far, they have not re-programmed their radios to reflect this. They have added a few Talkgroups. Here's a little tip I follow...if the first 2 numbers in the Talkgroup begin with 16 or 17 (16400 or 17168 as examples) those Talkgroups are assigned to the Narcotics Unit. If the first 2 numbers begin with 18 or 19 (18464 or 19008 for example) those Talkgroups are assigned to the Gang Investigations Section. If the First 2 numbers are 32 or 33 (32784 or 33160 for example) that has the official designation as O.C.D. Channels as is correctly posted. In operations where both Narcotics and Gang Investigations work together, they both have the capability to switch to these Channels. I believe it's in the C mode on the radio. Narcotics doesn't have Gang Talk groups and vice versa. They both have O.C.D. Channels though. So any of the talkgroups you have listed, that don't match this criteria are incorrect. Currently, the old Intelligence Talkgroups ( started with 24 or 25) have not been active since the Gang Investigations Unit was created. Will they be reactivated is anyones guess. The Prostitution Unit Talkgroup is infrequently used at this time. More likely than not, they're on the low-powered City-Wide 8 working with the Tactical Unit from the District they are working. Marine Units Talkgroups are correct. Mayor's Unit and Cline's driver is correct. So I ask, to whomever posted these changes, to re-post reflecting this corrected information I provided.

The talkgroups are set up kind of strange I must say. Talkgroup 16400 is Narc Squad 1 and 17168 is Narc Squad 16. These are old radios I believe and the team you here is the only one on there. Talkgroup 16640 is quite active, contraary to reports. From what i've heard, Talkgroup 16432 is Narc. B. Then it starts at 16896 as Narc C, then add 16 to those for the rest. I've seen 17120 lately, and not sure what that Talkgroup's designation yet.

Here's a little hint i've picked up over the years listening to this system. If you happen to catch the beginning of the day for these guys and gals, you will hear radio checks like this.." Radio check on Narc B, anyone out there? ". Mark the Talkgroup, and there you go.

To the poster of the updates, feel free to contact me regarding this system. Eliminate the goofy talkgroups that I previously mentioned. Surveillance with teletrac..I almost fell off my chair laughing.

Well Dave, if you know the designation of these "unknown" talkgroups, why don't you submit them? At least someone took the time to accumulate talkgroups and post them. Yeah, maybe he should have listened a little longer to find out what they are, but what about just listening to the talkgroups and figuring them out for ourselfs once in a while? Isn't that the fun of scanning? Just my 2 cents....

No I haven't submitted info on this system only because of the sensitive nature of the communications. I don't think covert operations really should be posted, but their is my nickels worth.

As previously stated in my original post, I basically posted the necessary information to make the corrections. My message was intended to the original poster of the "corrections", that no corrections should be made unless you can confirm what you're hearing. I have seen this quite a bit where someone makes "corrections" and are marked as "unknown". It sounds to me that the person who made corrections, doesn't listen daily or would have known more about the Talkgroups, that's all.

Apparently, there are multiple people (which were trying to keep down to 1 now) that update the database. Most, if not all, are not in Chicago, so they can not verify most things. We don't know one contibutor from another.. And how in the world are we supposed to know that we can "email you" to discuss & compare talk groups?

Just submit everything you have and we'll work with it.

Only a few things have been updated in the last few weeks, everything else was done back in February.

So, from your post above, I'm more confused than ever. Just need a simple list of whats active, what isn't, etc. Sorry, I don't monitor many trunked systems, but I know a lot about scanning.

We should post up are active talkgroups we find here, I live in chi town and hardily ever listen to this system. I agree with dave in the aspect of just confirming it, if you feel that it is critical and the whole world does not need to know it, proceed that way. Otherwise encryption will become a standard, which stinks for some of us that really just like to hear it period.

And, yes there is a reason for why its not encrypted, thank you chicago for doing comms in the right way. Officers Saftey / Firefighters Saftey
