I have a question, I know Chicago is moving to a new digital radio system, I remember seeing them carrying around HT's and such... my question is what will they do with all those thousands of analog radios once they switch? :( I am HOPING they get recycled and not just thrown away!

CPD switched from Sabres to XTS5000 Astro radios years ago. Radios were used with their conventional, analog system but could easily be reprogrammed for digital/trunked system should they decide to go that way. So far, they're sticking to their analog system. No plans of going digital P25. Fire Dept is changing.

CFD has mostly VHFXTS5000's and some analog Sabers still left. The sabers will probably be disposed of and the XTS's saved for parts for the new system that also uses XTS5000's The RF boards are the only thing different. Or.. they could end up in a dumpster getting crushed.
