Preliminary reports link Chinese drywall, corrosion in U.S. homes

(CNN) -- The suspected link between Chinese drywall and toxic effects reported by thousands of U.S.
homeowners was strengthened Monday by three preliminary reports issued by the federal government.

The drywall in question was imported from 2005 through 2007, when a housing boom and two active
hurricane seasons created a shortage of building materials in the southern United States.

Since then, the product safety agency has received nearly 2,100 reports from 32 states -- of homeowners
complaining of a rotten-egg smell, sickness, failed appliances, and corroded wires and pipes. Many have
moved out of their homes. In some cases, insurers have refused to reimburse them.

Saw this on the local news.

So long as the government allows the "free market" to benefit form overseas production, then this kind of crap will continue to happen. People know it's one thing after another with these imports.

There's something that can be done.

I can submit a list a mile long! Where's the fked up trade commission! Are all these cases exempt? Not their responsibility? Just who's is it? There has to be some agency in the alphabet soup of bureaucracy.

Should include drywall.

Now, bad drywall is being found from US manufacturers also.
Maybe we should stop buying US products.

Bad quality comes from bad processes.

It is the fault of the buying/importing company. PERIOD!

Seen the same report on the news a couple days ago. I agree with your summary. Just wait and see what kind of product were going to get with them controlling the steel market. These American companies outsource everything and then come up with inferior products and to make it worse, the companies over there don't care. Just saw another news story on Bootleg products being at a all time high. Who's payin for it all? The consumer..........

i think all this stuff we import from china is being used as a preemptive strike against the US, especially the lead in the toys and the baby formula.

Talk about mixing issues.

Bootleg products become popular when the brand name manufacturer is trying to pull (exhort) unreasonable profits from the consumer.

As for the consumer paying, there is no one else in the value chain who can pay.
Arguing that someone else should pay is false logic.

Not allowed...infraction.
Perhaps the drywall is also being made with the dogfood from a couple years ago and baby formula and lead paint from last year. I think the chinese have banned gypsum from our drywall cuz there was no more room to mix it in with all the other sewage.

We can make them, there is just no value in us making them, when we can buy them cheaper.

It's a global economy, get used to it!

Hulu - Onion News Network: Obama Promises To Stop America’s S***ty Jobs From Going Overseas (Not Work Safe)

So an American makes less pay they can afford cheap er products? Is that sound reasoning?

So if an American has no job then how can you afford an LCD that may cost one bloody dollar? ! (Notice I said dollar, not Euro)

Commerce is important, but so is a level playing field! Get with the program!

HA! Now that I think of it, why is Obama not allowing the U.S Department of Commerce in on meetings??? Maybe they make too much sense, or they would impede some kind of agenda?

From Wikipedia:
The 2007 pet food recalls comprise the contamination and wide recall of many brands of cat and dog foods beginning in March 2007 and the ensuing developments involving the human food supply. The recalls in North America, Europe, and South Africa came in response to reports of renal failure in pets. Initially the recalls were associated with the consumption of mostly wet pet foods made with wheat gluten from a single Chinese company.
and...

In September 2008, Sanlu Group had to recall baby formula because it was contaminated with melamine. Around 294,000 babies in China became ill after drinking the milk; at least six babies died. It received a bankruptcy order from Shijiazhuang Court on 24 December 2008, and four of its top executives were given long prison sentences in January 2009.
