• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a new handheld radio and, out-of-the-box, I was able to pick up my local county sheriffs frequency which allowed me to listen to the channel. However, I recently used Chirp to program my radio as a preset and now I can no longer pick up this frequency. I'm guessing one of the settings in Chirp is incorrect or something. Can someone please assist me to figure out why I cannot pick up this frequency anymore? I have attached a screenshot of the Chirp settings for this channel which is labeled DCSO on the list. Here is the info regarding the channel I wish to monitor: KAZ666 (DANE, COUNTY OF) FCC Callsign Details

It appears to me that you have it set to skip over the channels when scanning. Can you pause scan and tune to the channel and hear anything?

I'm not scanning to get to the channel. When I direct-tune to 155.655 (DCSO) frequency, I don't hear any chatter, and I should because until recently I was always able to use this radio to pick up the local Sheriffs dispatch. When I direct-tune to 162.550, I can hear the NOAA weather recording so the radio is able to hear that frequency fine. I'm also able to tune into 467.5625 which is the low-power frequency I use for our family radio's. I'm wondering if Dane County has gone digital and Radio Reference just doesn't have their website updated. I'm using an analog only radio. The only other thing I can think of are tone settings are wrong. Not sure. This same radio used to pick up 155.655 fine but recently I cannot seem to hear any chatter on any local fire/EMS/Police channels. I know there should be chatter because I hear it here: javascript:LaunchWindow('/listen/feed/12112/web','12112','height=750,width=780,scrollbars=no')
