i could not find if this has been discussed or a fix, dont know if it belongs here but here goes. ever since the new frequiences for the chp were changed awhile ago my 500 and 600 both will skip the audio when i have the ct saved for that freq, but if i leave the option in search mode it is clear as a bell. i have done all the updates and am at a lose for this problem. surely someone has a 500/600 that does this and figured it out?
p.s. there is no prioritys turned on and have only noticed it with the chp channels.

Dumb question maybe: Do you have the correct PL Tone set for the division you're listening to? This is circa 2005, but:
Northern: 107.2
Valley: 179.9
Golden Gate: 131.8
Central: 146.2
Southern: 192.8
Border: 162.2
Coastal: 167.9
Inland: 118.8

Or you may have set the tone to lockout. Which skips the channel if a certain tone is received.

You prob have the right PL, but if it's on lockout it will skip it.

That table is WAY obsolete, due to the "improvements" in the CHP low band system since 2006.

Ok, thank you. It was much easier to grab a 2005 era directory, than to back out of here, get back on and go to the DB to write down the tones, then come back here again to post them. Limited to a 3G cell phone for access here.

its not lockout because they being both scanners stop on the channels, i just get breaks in the audio like when the prioritys are on, but i know the prioritys are not on, i mainly listen to chp chico at 44.700 with a ct of 136.5 if i have the ct saved i get breaks in the audio, if i have the channel in search i get the same ct of 136.5 with the soft key options to store or save but the channel is perfect with no breaks, i have found this with the 2 sacramento, ukiah, and susanville channels too. and if i leave them in search thier perfect, i did not have this problem when say chp chico was using the depreciated channel of 42.500, and i do not have this problem with the extender channel of 154.905, i have no other channels that do this, i know its not a low band issue due to i recieve the caltrans low bands in the 47 range with no problems, so maybe its the way the scanner is looking at these channels?, and my old pro 2055 has no problem with these channels with the ct stored on them, thanks for the help

I'm not talking about the channels being locked out I'm talking about the tone being locked out.

For example. Say you have two agencies on the same frequency with different PLs. One is 100.0 the other is 156.7.

You only want to listen to the agency with 100.0, so you lock out tone 156.7

You may have selected the right tone but locked it out instead of setting it to receive. Most newer scanners have this option.

I know what tour saying. The scanner will stop on the channel with the ct saved and play the audio but the audio skips like when a scanner checks the priority channel, and then starts playing again it never leaves the channel it just has breaks in the audio. Its baffling because it only happens with the chip channels and not any others

Just going to throw my 2 cents in but it sounds like a reception issue to me. I know if the receiver is not getting a strong tone reception it will cut off the audio. I've had direct experience with this excact problem with 2-ways getting out in fringe reception areas, we would just reach down and flip the pl switch off on the radio.
1)When your in search it disreguards the tone so you can hear audio.
2) your 2055 probably has a more sensitive receive circuit so it's not showing the same problems.

Low bands are funny when the weather changes and it may just be a coincidence of frequency change and weather change.

Hope this helps

I have discovered an issue with these radios, when picking up at least some of the CHP traffic and having intermittent drop out. This happened in my case when in TSql on the Orange2 channel for Merced Co. I am not the only one with this problem. I also very rarely seem to have a carrier drop out when listening in carrier squelch. This week was the first noticeable week that this has happened. The older problem has been passed over to GRE but with the language barrier, I am not sure how seriously they took the report.

The GRE-500/600 models don't have a tone lockout feature.

I experience the same problem, but when I'm in the southern division I don't. In northern L.A. country I will listen to L.A. dispatch with no problems and be listening to Bishop dispatch (eastern Kern County) at the same time and only experience the problem on the Bishop dispatch gold.

I've seen this issue myself monitoring Phoenix, AZ fire dispatch with the PL on, during the morning pager tests. The audio cuts out in the middle of a tone out tone. In CSQ, it doesn't. I thought the audio tone was interferring with the PL tone reception.

This is on 154.190, with a PL of 173.8. It doesn't do it on the RWC TG.

I had this problem just last night, on my analog scanner I was receiving traffic on 155.700 and my pro 106 it would stop on the freq. full scale but there was no audio, Played around with settings and set CTCSS Mode to CTCSS and set CTCSS Hz: to Search, Saved then hit scan it stopped on the freq with audio AND then it showed CT: 131.8 S and the store button, pressed Store and it is now working right.

I have the same issue. I believe it's just how the Midland radios are tuned; they were installed when the move was made. The GRE's just don't like it.

That plus terrible lowband performance moved me to add a BCT15X to the truck.

I had this same problem on Merced's Orange 2. I asked the same question on this forum, but the post is no longer here. It was suggested to put the scanner in CTCSS search mode. When I did this the problem went away. Give it a try.
