Does anyone know which offices use this freq?

I just heard activity on it a few minutes ago. It was a REALLY weak signal. I'm surprised I actually picked it up.

Thanks! :D

This is used by Rancho Cucamonga, in San Bernardino County, and has a tone of 118.8
Maybe some sporadic E skip going on? I've picked up the CHP from northern NV/UT during the summer months because of this.

According to the database; 39.880 is CHP Beige 1 in Rancho Cucamonga.
I've been picking up a lot of distant CHP lately. I am guessing the signal was not good enough to get a good/locked PL tone.?

I'm getting CHP from all over lately (and I almost never get CHP) must be some good atmosphere right now. Also loving the repeated mobile traffic out of Golden Gate, wish Sacramento would do that.

CHP Repeaters?

At least one CHP officer swears the CHP does not have repeaters:

I read the entire thread, and they are correct. Just because the cars in Golden Gate division (and others) are repeated, does not mean they are using repeaters to do it. This is a "war of terminology". Also, there are many transmit sites for each channel, which explains why someone can hear someone perfectly clear one moment and not hear them the next (or visa versa). But again, it is not really a "repeater"; it is more like a set of remote transceiver sites.

For those who only use the short rubber duckie antenna that came with their scanner(s), I would agree that CHP is tough to listen to. But for those who have the correct antenna installed (base or mobile), I personally find it the easiest agency to hear. I figure that if the dispatcher can hear a car I should be able to as well. That logic works for me for most conversations.

I agree with gmclam it is a "war of terminology", yes they do repeat the mobiles on the base frequency but it is not done in the normal fashion as a standard repeater (one input frequency and one output frequency) but if I can hear the mobile unit on the base frequency it is being repeated and I also agree with the CHP forum in that it is a very complex and complicated system but in my opinion that is why it sucks, if they used a normal radio system just like everyone else I wouldn’t be standing next to CHP officers in the field every day telling me I have better radio equipment than they have. I can’t even recall all the times I have witnessed a portable radio fly through the air because an extender wasn’t working on top of all the complaints about the car radio.

It was REALLY quick. really brief. I wasn't paying attention because I think it was plate information. When I looked over I noticed Beige on the display.

I picked it up with the 2 1/2 ft. RS extendable. That's really cool that it was from Rancho Cucamonga. I've never pick up skip, except when I pick up 97.3 FM "Alice" from San Francisco in the late afternoons on a good day (with the Grundig).

Sure, if your antenna is some 120 feet in the air! :)

It does not have to be 120 feet above the ground; it can be the same (or higher) distance above sea level! ;)
