There was a good post about the beat structure of the Central Los Angeles CHP office.
I remember they use a pretty unique system where they assign the beat numbers as spokes radiating out from the station.
E.g. 20s for the 101, 30s for the I-5, 40s for the I-10, 50s for the I-110, etc.
I am afraid the post with the exact beats is gone, does someone happen to know them?

As it was explained to me by a CHP officer many years ago.
The numbers start from the northern end and from the western end(?) of the office boundaries.
The first or the first two numbers ID the freeway and the third number indicates the beat area of that freeway within that office.
Here in Orange County, 501(northern),502(middle),503(southern) are the Santa Ana freeway in the Santa Ana office. Orange freeway is 571 & 572. The San Diego freeway units are numbered 401,402,403.

This type of numbering is used through out the state.
There is/was a numbering system for extra patrols for like holidays. I don't recall how they work this. I think they added a letter on the end of the number?

Please take this information for what it is worth. I was told this information at least 30 years ago and I am not a big follower of the CHP.

Rural areas are not similar to the urban areas. Where I live, the northern portion of an area office has the lower numbers, but that is where the similarity ends. I can hear two area offices where I live. I hear Bishop dispatch on the Gold, which serves two of Bishop dispatch's 3 area offices. The third office is Mojave and that is where most of the action for this dispatch center. Mojave generates almost all of the Code 33 evemts.
