On the San Diego RCS, CHP El Cajon has a dispatch and several tac talkgroups, both normal (for the lack of a better description) and "residential".

What is the difference? Are the "residential" talkgroups for far-east CHP? Perhaps they respond from their homes, hence the word residential?

And on a side-note, has anyone ever heard the CHP Commercial (maybe related to checkpoints or truckers?) talkgroup or CHP Delegation (for president/politician escorts??). In nearly 2 years of scanning, I've never heard them, although I'll admit I rarely listen to them.

CHP El Cajon Area covers a large land area in the county. Most of the area is covered in the RCS East operating area (East and Northeast cells, and the various IR sites). Some of their operating area (the metro areas) falls within the RCS South Cell's area. When CHP came onto the system (about 10 years ago) there was a capacity issue in the South Cell. Therefore, separate TGs for each RCS operating area were created. This is why you see two CHP El Cajon Dispatch talkgroups listed (South and East), and separate Tacs. Normally, the two sets of Dispatch TGs are simulcast.

I don't know who 'tagged' the East groups as "(Resident)". CHP El Cajon (like the Sheriff's Department) has Resident officers who work from their homes in the very rural areas of the east County. IMHO, the "(Resident)" designation should be removed.

The additional CHP talkgroups are used from time to time for various details.

I have heard the delegation talk group used a few times when they are doing escort ops with visiting dignitaries. With respect to the resident talk groups the units as well as the dispatchers will refer to them as "Resident Tac"
