I listen to CHP when I travel to the Bay Area and loaded up my PRO-163 with all the low band frequencies directly from the RR database. I noticed that there are freqs alpha-tagged as M as well as B. i assume base and mobile. Do I need both of these or can I just listen to the base freq?

Most just listen to B.....but to hear both sides than listen to M. Its user preference.....in southern division they M comes across B.

Yes, "Base" and "Mobile." Normally in the Bay Area the CHP Golden Gate Division repeats the mobile traffic back on the base frequency. However unlike a normal repeater, CHP uses a console patch at their dispatch center to cause the repeated operation. For reasons still unknown to me... sometimes CHP dispatchers decide to switch this function off. So one day you may be hearing both the dispatcher and mobiles on the base frequency, and the next day you may only hear the dispatcher. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you program both "B" and "M" frequencies. I think the exception is Southern Division, which has gone through the CHPRS upgrades and now repeats 100% of the time.

Are you saying that all dispatch centers will be able to "patch" the freq. ? After the chprs get done of course
