I saw on the RCS website that they requested 825 radio ID’s for mutual aid purpose. Any idea when they will program their radios. Always interesting when two agencies are working the same incident on different channels.

Request the RCS Board approve a Mutual Aid Agreement with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for up to 825 radios.
Staff background / recommendations: The California Highway Patrol is an RCS Partner Agency for their day-to-day operations of the El Cajon Area Office (approximately 175 mobile and portable radios). The El Cajon Area Office is the only CHP field area in the state that does not operate on the CHP's 42 MHz statewide radio system.
CHP is requesting to add the portable radios assigned to the remaining CHP Area Offices in their Border Division (Imperial, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties) for an initial combined total of 805 radios. These radios would be programmed only with the Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Fleetmap and would be used only for interaction with RCS units while operating under Mutual Aid conditions (including Mobile Field Force platoon deployments).
Following the 2007 Wildfires, the former RCS Board of Directors directed staff to reserve 300 radio IDs for use by CHP in anticipation of a request for a Mutual Aid Agreement. With the implementation of the NextGen infrastructure, the network has the capacity to handle this request for 825 users. Staff recommends approval.

We are coordinating that programming currently.
I don't know when the actual file will be uploaded by CHP to their radios.

Good news, which talkgroups would they have access to? Just Blue and commands and tacs or individual agencies? Trying to figure programming since I have one scanner for CHP and one for RCS.

Standard LE Mutual Aid load:
  • Law Mutual Aid (North LE Command and Tacs, South LE Command and Tacs, East LE Command and Tacs, Blue1)
  • Regional Mutual Aid (SD County Call, SD County Tacs 1-4, SD ICS-1 through 11)
  • Imperial Mutual Aid (IM County Call, IM County Tacs 1-4, IM ICS-1 through 11)
  • 800 Conventional Zone
  • TRF
The 825 radios are portables only, covering Border Division area offices other than the El Cajon Area.

Has there been any news or future scuttlebutt regarding CHPs desire to put SD and Oside on the RCS?

Be glad they are on low band. In NC, when NCSHP lowband went silent it was a sad day. I could also hear CHP booming in when the band was open. Tennessee also dropped their low band as well.

Well, let's see. It seems "distance in signal" as you say, would behoove an agency such as the CHP to stay right where they are on lowband, given the vast areas they cover, even if only looking at San Diego County. The subscriber units for Border Division will solve the interop issue.
Many others, eh? Please enlighten all of us!

Well... we are waiting.

Let's see:

Distance in signal Yes, Low Band has that. However, no infrastructure equipment manufacturers are currently supporting the band.

Interoperability with neighboring service In low band? Or are you speaking of 150 / 450 / 800, which every CHP Patrol vehicle already has?

Many others Such as?

Well... we are waiting. For?
