A week ago, I heard CHP base and mobiles, both
on the base frequency. Black, Gold and Green. Now,
all the frequencies are dead, what happened, did they
go to trunking or ? I heard something on the 44 Mhz
resembling a weak chp base tonight, any input on this ?
Thanks in advance, JD.

JD, better asked in the California Forum. You'll get a quicker answer:)

CHP Sacramento

I have been monitoring CHP since the mid 1970s. My custom PRO-77 and a good outdoor antenna makes it no big deal for me. When the new channels went in to effect, most of the mobiles were being repeated on the base frequencies. I say most because even at that time I was still picking up a lot of direct mobile traffic not being repeated (even when I was at one of the repeater sites).

For whatever reason, the dispatchers have apparently turned off the repeat function. I don't remember the last time I heard a mobile on the base frequency (unless car to car). Of course White2 & Brown2 are still being repeated (for most traffic).
