Strangely enough, at my standard location at 10News in the parking lot overnight, 39.8 TAN was coming in gangbusters, while 39.14 BLUE (TAN) was practically unreadable static. This is the exact opposite of how it has been for months.

Scotty,

As the channel is simulcast, the work has to take place at all tower locations. Tweaking one site will not correct the problem.

What can BROWN do for you?

Well, as of this Saturday (August 16, 2014), BROWN can do Temecula CHP. Due to ongoing communication problems with the TAN following the recent system upgrades, CHP will be reprogramming their radios and switching Temecula to the BROWN. Oceanside will remain on the TAN. Information per Oceanside CHP supervisor.

I would assume the techs would use the transmitter with the highest "db". :-D

Just kidding. But seriously, not a clue. The Sgt showed me the computer screen that controls their radios and told me that they took the "color" designators out of it. They just have the office locations displayed now.

Won't they get lost without their colors? :)

Hopefully someone in that area will find it for us.

If Temecula is being split from Oceanside, maybe they are also being moved to Inland Division?

Border PL should stay border PL...but then again, that was when the radios were configured like Calfire HT's.

I found a YouTube link explaining what each color stands for. It's a pretty old link from the 80's, but it's still relevant at least for the Los Angeles area. I forgot how square old Caprice's are! :)

No, they are (and will continue to be) a part of Border Division (and dispatched out of Border Communications in San Diego).

The CHP supervisor told me they have a continuing interest in being able to utilize the mutual aid (RCS) capabilities their weird looking mobile extender handhelds have. When I asked him how he liked his Ericsson walkie-talkie, the possibility of it being able to interact with the RCS was the only thing he brought up about it.

As for the RCS coverage for the CHP El Cajon office, I can't remember hearing an officer ever have to "fall-back" to the GOLD to reach dispatch. I do hear them pop up on the GOLD on simplex just to chat like a CB from time to time. Interesting side note, the El Cajon officers carry Motorola XTS5000's, even though the standard CHP issue Ericssons should be technically capable of RCS use.

Paul,

The CHP radios are EF Johnson. Also, the El Cajon Office has been retiring their Motorola radios as the new vehicles and EFJ radios roll out.

The new Border Brown may be 39.34 Mhz . Recent license modifications were made to the Temecula office license; Vista Grande radio site; and Santiago Peak radio site. BTW, I've never heard any traffic on L.A. CHP 39.34Mhz-Peach. We'll just have to wait and see.
